Racial Equity Institute Training

The Racial Justice Planning Group and the Outreach Support Team are hosting a Racial Equity Institute (REI) Phase I training on May 14-15 in the Youth Wing. REI’s two-day workshop is designed to provide attendees with a vocabulary and historical framework for racism to better understand how it damages lives in all communities.

REI provides nationally recognized training that moves the focus from individual bigotry and bias. “The REI Phase I workshop presents a historical, cultural, structural and institutional analysis over two days. REI believes that organizations often work for equity with multiple understandings of racism that rely more on personal feelings and popular opinion. The lack of a common analysis creates complications to the goal of eliminating racial and ethnic disparities and producing equitable outcomes. With a clear understanding of how institutions and systems are producing unjust and inequitable outcomes, participants in Phase I are able to begin a journey to work towards social transformation and racial justice.” Learn more about REI Training here.

People from throughout the region are expected to attend. We have limited scholarship support available specifically for St. Paul’s parishioners through the endowment fund. Pre-registration is required. Learn more and register here. Please email aleta@att.net BEFORE registering if scholarship support is needed. Alumni of prior trainings are always welcome to attend at a reduced cost that covers their meals.
