Confirmation and Reception are the rites in The Episcopal Church by which we make the adult decision to live our Christian faith in this particular denomination.
For adults and older youth (ages 16+) baptized earlier in life, confirmation is a chance for them to confirm that commitment and renew their baptismal vows. For those confirmed in another tradition (Catholic, Lutheran, Methodist), reception is an opportunity to make a public affirmation of a commitment to be fully received into the communion of The Episcopal Church. Confirmation or reception allows adults to serve on the vestry and to vote for vestry members.
Classes are offered every year and led by the clergy; there are separate classes for adults and youth. The celebration of Confirmation, Reception, and Reaffirmation of Baptismal Vows occurs during the annual visitation from our diocesan bishop. Our next official visit from the diocese is scheduled for April 19, 2026. The Rt. Rev. Samuel Rodman, bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina, will celebrate with us.
In 2026, adult classes for Reception and Confirmation are going to be dovetailed into our parish forum series aimed at renewing the faith and commitment of the whole parish as we prepare for the next chapter in our parish life. Youth classes will be held during the Sunday Formation hour (10:15-11 a.m.) on the five Sundays of Lent: Feb. 22 through Mar. 22. Youth can register and learn more here.
Adults seeking confirmation should plan on attending at least 3 out of 5, ideally all five, of the Parish Forums (10:15-11 a.m.) during Lent, Feb. 22 through Mar. 22. These forums will be recorded for those unable to attend in person, but in person attendance is strongly encouraged.
To express interest in being received into The Episcopal Church from another tradition, or to be confirmed in The Episocpal Church, please fill out this short form. Youth may fill out this form.
