Our Refuge for Refugees (R4R) Ministry is excited to welcome a wonderful family of five to Cary this August!
The family is originally from Gaza. The mother worked as a nurse, and the father worked as a social worker. In 2025, they made the difficult decision to flee Gaza when their youngest son, then just four months old, became critically ill with pneumonia amid severe famine conditions.
Fortunately, the mother’s sister and her family had already immigrated to the United States. Through the support of faith communities, colleagues, and friends, the sister was able to help raise the funds needed for the family to travel to Egypt, where their son received the medical care he urgently needed.
The sister has worked tirelessly to help the family begin a new chapter in the United States. During this time, the mother earned a full scholarship to Rutgers University and recently completed her Master’s degree in Public Health.
The family is looking forward to settling in Cary and being closer to the relatives they already have here. Their three boys, ages 8, 6, and 2, are especially excited about the move. Family members have secured an apartment for them, and they will move in this August.
Because the family has been living in furnished student housing in New Jersey, they will be arriving with very few household belongings. To help them establish their new home, we have created a SignUpGenius with needed items. Any support you can provide will help this family as they begin their new life in our community.
Thank you for helping us give this family a warm welcome to Cary.
