Recognizing The Episcopal Church’s call to engage in elections as a means of Christian stewardship, ONE Wake at St. Paul’s, the Community Response Group, and the Racial Justice Planning Group have compiled resources to assist everyone in voting faithfully for our November elections. The document contains links to voting sites, dates for polling places and ways to check your voter registration. Access the resources here.
Just this week, the Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina provided the following guidance, referencing the Faithful Voter Guide published by the North Carolina Council of Churches:
“We encourage faithful engagement with the issues before us, believing that our faith calls us to seek justice, show compassion and work for the common good. May this guide inspire reflection, conversation and action that helps build a more just and flourishing North Carolina.
Take a deeper dive into the Faithful Voter Guide by using our Companion Toolkit that gives congregations and small groups a framework for exploring the issues, asking faithful questions and discerning how our values call us to respond.”
Members of The Episcopal Church’s Public Policy, Partnership, and Witness Division in collaboration with other Church Center departments, have been posting prayers weekly as a means of engaging more deeply with the concerns of the vulnerable among us facing challenges, fears, and threats. As stated on their webpage, “Episcopalians are invited to share and speak these prayers in congregations, small groups, and individually. These prayers are not a replacement for action; they are meant to offer space for grounding and discernment as we seek to bear one another’s burdens in the love and way of Christ.”
Throughout the month of October, St. Paul’s will have volunteers on hand after services to help answer questions you may have about voting this season. Join us in conversation about what participating in voting means to you; find ways to further engage safely in assisting others as they seek to exercise their right to vote as well. Join with other congregations on October 18 for a Souls to the Polls event, hosted by St. Paul’s, in conjunction with other Cary churches.
Contact Celia Hartnett, Maria Castro, Lynn Tovar, Aleta McClenney or Mary Kintz for more resources or conversation.
