Weekly Update Apr 24, 2020: A Letter from the Rector

April 24, 2020

Dear Friends,

A parishioner contacted me the other day to let me know that she feels so connected to St. Paul’s and was thankful for all the efforts being made to keep us connected during this time. While I hope others have had that experience as well, I do not want to assume that is everyone’s experience. These can be lonely times for so many of us as we crave community and connectedness.

Social Contact Phone Calls
In an effort to stay connected I have asked the vestry, staff, clergy, and pastoral care folks to make phone calls to everyone in the parish. These calls will begin today and continue for the next couple weeks. It is a call to let you know we are thinking about you and to see how you are doing. Now if you’re like me, I hesitate to answer a phone call when I don’t recognize the number. So, if you choose to not answer your phone, a voicemail will be left, and I’d like to encourage you to call back. This is just another way to stay connected.

Appalachia Service Project – ASP Sunday
For the first time in 51 years the Appalachia Service Project has made the difficult decision to postpone all its mission work until at least August 1. Thus, our parish ASP mission trip will be canceled this year for the first time in 22 years. While this is understandable, it is a great disappointment for us all. Each year over 45 youth and adults from St. Paul’s engage in this wonderful ministry. But the good news is that this Sunday is ASP Sunday when we welcome youth to preach and tell us about the significance of this work in their lives. This is a Sunday I look forward to every year! So be sure to join us this Sunday on Facebook Livestream as we welcome Elise Hubbard and Eddie Bricio as our speakers. The link for this Sunday’s service is https://www.facebook.com/stpaulscary/. When we gathered for Sunday worship prior to these Covid-19 protocols, we become accustomed to the Sunday bulletin informing us of ministry activities. Now that we are in this period of gathering in a much different way, we want to continue to be informed of ministry activities and invite you to send announcements to stpauls@stpaulscary.org or call 919-467-1477. These announcements will be posted on the parish website as well as emailed through E-news. If you have not yet done so I encourage you to sign up for E-news on the parish website www.stpaulscary.org. Click News at the top of the page and you will be brought to a page where you will find a link to subscribe.

Keep In Touch
I encourage you to stay connected through the St. Paul’s Connects link on the St. Paul website. There is so much happening in our ministries amidst the challenges before us.

Stay well. I look forward to gathering with you.
