Fr. Carr serves on a half-time basis, and his regular office hours are on Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday. Beyond his regular liturgical and pastoral responsibilities, he provides pastoral support to the children’s and youth committees.
Born in Raleigh, NC, Carr grew up in Greensboro. He jokingly identifies as a cradle Episcopalian who was dropped off at the Presbyterian church before finding home in this tradition. His first degree was in Social Welfare from UNC-G and he later earned a Master of Divinity from the General Theological Seminary in New York, where he later received a certificate in Spiritual Direction. Ordained in western North Carolina, he served for 35 years in various parishes in New Jersey. For eighteen of those years, he served in the City of Newark, which connected his care for the vulnerable with his faith practice.
He and his husband, Maxwell Mundy, MD, resettled in North Carolina in 2011 after retiring. Failing retirement repeatedly, he was on staff at St. Paul’s for six years, while also serving as Minister of the Siasconset Union Chapel in Nantucket from June through September, where he continues to serve. He finds joy in his family, cooking a pleasing meal, gardening, two wee dogs– Harry and Lady– quiet time to reflect, poetry, people’s stories lived or recorded, and anything that causes him to laugh.
