Apr 4-May 16 - Homework Buddies
Does your child need help with a particular subject? Does s/he need motivation to complete homework? From math and science to reading and social studies, we can match your child with a tutor that fits his/her needs and/or provide a positive environment for peer studying. This program consists of two separate aspects that you can participate in: one, supervised homework sessions with fellow students, and two, tutoring in a specific area. Weekly commitment encouraged for tutoring.
Date: Wednesdays, April 4-June 13 (sessions resume in fall);
No Homework Buddies during July and August. Be on the lookout for the return of this program in the fall.

Helping Tween and Teen Girls Navigate Their Social Lives
Girl World—a place of high drama and emotional lows! Mean girls, cliques, bullies, targets, bystanders…why can’t girls just get along? Join Tammy Finch, PhD, for a fast-paced, informative and practical tour of your daughter’s friendships. We will examine how girls make and keep friends, the power of friendship groups and BFFs and take a close look at the phenomena of relational aggression. We will consider when and how you can intervene to help your daughter navigate stormy relationships. We’ll cover how you can coach your daughter to stand up for herself and others and how to set limits and boundaries with her friends.

Apr 21 - Better Than Wine:
Simple Practices for Cultivating Emotional Balance and a Peaceful Heart
Stressed? Exhausted? Angry? As women in a “be perfect” culture, we often focus
our lives on meeting the needs of others while we shortchange our own personal development and well being. During this one-day retreat for women only, Tammy
Finch, PhD, will introduce you to simple practices that cultivate emotional balance and a peaceful heart. Through gentle movement, breathing and meditation practices plus sharing of research on creating happiness, you will come away with a set of simple, sustainable practices that will help you feel more relaxed, centered and empowered. Retreat fee includes the book Buddha’s Brain: The Practical Science of Happiness, Love and Wisdom take home audio recordings of practices. All body mobility levels welcome! No previous yoga, movement or meditation experience needed. Please dress in layers in comfortable clothes and bring a blanket, pillow and yoga mat or two, if possible.

Apr 26 - Recognize, Reduce, and Respond:
The Cycle of Parenting a Stressed-Out Child
Does your child complain about being tired and overwhelmed? Is he wired or wound up? Is she withdrawn? It might be stress. Come learn more about identifying,
recognizing and managing childhood stress. Elizabeth Worley will present a two hour collaborative workshop for parents, who will leave with concrete, realistic strategies to support their children when dealing with the inevitable stressors of life.

May 1-29 - Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
May Session: Emotion Regulation
Dr. Sally Harbold is offering the teachings of DBT in segments that will continue year round. You can participate in an offering at any time. Emotion Regulation helps us to feel free to “have our emotions and not let them have us!” This class will review practical and easy steps toward acceptance of all our feelings as well as self care in emotional times (without judgment or confusion). Life is emotional! Learn to live well with your emotions. Meg Donald is co-facilitating.

Do’s and Don’ts for Parents
Presented by returning instructor Dr. Kristen Wynns, of Wynns Family Psychology, this discussion will focus on:
- The dangers of being BFFs with your teen
- How to be close but not too close with your teen
- Tools for having appropriate boundaries and limits with teens
- The impact of social media on teens and how involved parents should be with Facebook, texting, etc.
- Ways to enhance your teen’s self esteem and sense of self

Lydia Kaus, LPC, LCAS, will discuss the myths and facts about addiction, helping participants to gain a clearer understanding of the progression of behavior. Information about warning signs for various types of addictions will be provided, as well as information about identifying high-risk populations and the various resources available for treatment.

May 8 - Worry Wart or Wallflower:
Strategies for Helping Your Cautious, Anxious, or Shy Child
Having a shy child can be challenging. As parents, we fluctuate between protecting and pushing. In this two-hour workshop, parents will learn how to reframe their child’s behaviors in order to better support their social and emotional needs. In this workshop conducted by Edla Prevette, parents will receive practical strategies to help their children be more successful in social settings.

May 10 - The Birds and Bees in Cyberworld:
Teen Sexuality Education in Today’s Sexualized Culture
Today’s teens and tweens live in a hyper-sexualized culture: television, movies, internet. They must safely navigate sexualized messages, images and misinformation. This workshop will help you understand the pressures your t(w)een faces and how you can help. We will explore t(w)een culture related to the use of pornography, examine t(w)een misperceptions about sexuality, suggest crucial topics to discuss with your t(w)een, explore skills your t(w)een needs to keep safe and, most importantly, offer real-life, practical strategies for successful communication between you and your t(w)een. Join us for an eye-opening, intelligent examination of adolescent sexuality.

May 17-Jun 7 - Hatha Yoga Class: Increasing Your Awareness
This class is designed to increase your awareness about your body and its connection to your mind and your surrounding environment. Not only will you become aware of the physical strength in your body, you will also learn where and how you carry your stress and how to best alleviate it. We will explore a variety of postures, breathing techniques and meditations in a supportive, fun environment. At times we will flow between poses and focus on holding them to learn proper technique and allow time to connect with the body. This is a great class for beginners, but it will also be challenging enough for the seasoned practitioner.

Jun 5 - Parenting Alone or With a Village?
Are you a single parent? Do you feel overwhelmed? Do you wish you had support? This class is for you! We will discuss delegating family responsibilities, taking care of yourself, creating support systems and more. This group will be a stepping stone for a support group if there is an interest. You are encouraged to bring your own concerns or questions as this group will be an open discussion forum. Meg Donald, CHH counselor and single parent for 21 years, will be facilitating the group.

Jul 10-31 - Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
July Session: Distress Tolerance
We have come full circle on the DBT skills of Distress Tolerance, Mindfulness, Interpersonal Effectiveness and Emotion Regulation. Now, in July, we go back to Distress Tolerance, remembering how that skill first came known to us and now how it works in light of the other skills we have learned. This is both a beginning point for DBT, a second round of learning for the continued integration and practice of leading a mindful and effective life as we deal with daily stressors, the emotions we carry, the relationships that challenge us and the practice of mindfulness. Join us if you are new or are already on the journey.

Aug 6-10 - Middle School Madness: Skills, Tips and Techniques for Surviving and Thriving in Middle School. A Camp for Students Entering Middle School
This week-long, half-day camp, led by Melissa Huemmer, will provide students with the
skills and knowledge s/he needs to get off to a great start in middle school. This camp is open to any student entering middle school and features the following topics:
- Academics 101: Organization, Study Skills and Time Management Basics
- Who’s Popular, Who’s Not: Navigating Middle School Friendships
- Chill: Stress Management for Serious Students
- Being YourSELF: Handling Peer Pressure, Resolving Conflicts and Making Decisions
- Relationship Savvy: Dealing with Teachers, Parents and the Opposite Sex

Grief Support Groups
The loss of a loved one can be one of the most difficult events an individual will face. You may eventually find comfort in sharing with others who are also experiencing the same feeling of loss. Groups address such issues as anger, guilt, processing the pain, commemorating loved ones and identity loss/redefining oneself—among many others. Time is provided for sharing and discussion among group members.
